This Queen Anne Victorian residence is
one of only two such Victorian-era properties to survive
in "Old Town" Alexandria, a predominantly
colonial historic community. Built in 1893, it is singular
in its representation of "high Victorian"
residence design.
Interplan's client in this historic renovation
was a law office interested in preserving the building's
architecture while accommodating their offices in the
twenty-first century.
From the street it would appear that
the property was "repaired and repainted"
only. A new, three-story stair tower was added to the
rear of the property, not visible from the street, to
allow renovation of the third-story "attic"
into habitable space.
An existing wood-frame Carriage House
at the rear of the property was also renovated, converted
into conference and library spaces.
