This 1890’s rowhouse was in desperate need of attention when Interplan’s client came to us with the unique requirement to renovate the building to support the needs of a thriving dog day care and grooming business. After determining that the wood frame and masonry structure was reasonably sound Interplan set out to design the restoration of the exterior façade, while redesigning the interior as a dog-friendly environment.

The biggest challenge of this project was providing interior spaces as open as possible while maintaining the original structural elements, so as not to potentially upset the structural balance of the building. Exploiting the dog theme was great fun, from designing dog bone door handles to using “Dalmatian” laminate. And of course there were the roof leaks to address. Not only was the entire building re-roofed, but a roof-top terrace was designed as a outdoor play space for the dogs.
