Historic Renovation

French Lawler House
Alexandria, VA

Sq. Feet: 5,500 SF
Year completed: 2001

Interplan architects used an innovative design approach to renovate this 1893 Queen Anne Victorian.  The main design goal was to preserve the building’s architecture while incorporating twenty-first century offices.

From the street it would appear that the property was “repaired and re-painted” only. In like-style to the Victorian architecture a new, three-story stair tower was added to the rear of the property to allow renovation of the
third-story “attic” space into habitable use. An existing wood-frame Carriage House at the rear of the property was also renovated and converted into conference and library spaces.
