Interplan architects used an innovative design approach to renovate this row house property. The main design goal was to transform the first and basement floors into law offices and two efficiency apartments on the second floor.
The front façade of the building was fully protected and preserved. The rest of the structure was unsalvageable due to long - term disrepair and previous fire damage. Therefore, everything behind the façade and between the party walls was demolished. The basement walls were underpinned in order to allow exaction of the basement area, to create habitable spaces. All three floors of the building were re-built with wood-frame construction. |
